DePuy Recall
DePuy Orthopaedics, a subsidiary of the Johnson & Johnson Company, issued a recall of its ASR (Artificial Surface Replacement) Unit and Hip Resurfacing System following reports of complications leading to significant injuries by people unfortunate to have received such a hip replacement.
However, it would seem that the Company may have known about these problems for some time before the recall and they have instructed a Loss Adjuster to deal with all claims in this country.
These claims for damages can include damages for the pain and suffering people have endured; the cost of medical treatment and further operations; loss of earnings and the cost of any continuing treatments in the future.
The Company handling these claims for DePuy are asking people to sign a medical release form which enables them to obtain copies of their hospital notes but also, and very importantly, to release the hip replacement itself to DePuy for testing if there is an operation to remove it. Careful thought must be given before signing such a form of authority because the hip replacement would be sent to DePuy for testing in their laboratories which could cause damage to the unit and destroy its evidential value if a case is later brought to Court.
People who have received the faulty units in hip replacement operations have suffered a range of symptoms, some very serious, which include quite severe pain, loss of sensation, tumours and poisoning of the blood stream and their body by pieces of metal breaking off from the joint and the release of chromium and cobalt. Sometimes people suffer from nausea, damage to nerves and headaches without necessarily suffering from pain in the affected hips.
These hip replacement units have been used in thousands of hip replacement operations in this country. If you have suffered any symptoms after such an operation, or you have not suffered any symptoms but want to be sure you will not be affected, you can get in touch with the hospital where you had the hip replacement operation and ask whether this type of hip replacement was used.
If you have been affected in any way by this product we can give you expert advice and help and would offer a free consultation with one of our experienced personal injury lawyers.
