Youth Courts are special Magistrates Courts which deal with all but the most serious charges against young persons aged between 10 (the age of criminal responsibility) and under 18.
Unless the Court considers it unreasonable to do so, it must insist on the attendance of the parent or guardian of the child or young person less than 16 years. In respect of those who are 16 and 17 years old, the Court has discretion. “Parent” will include a local authority where the child or young person is in their care.
