Domestic Abuse
Domestic Abuse is far more widespread than is admitted and is not just limited to violence within the household. It takes many forms including physical and sexual abuse, intimidation, mental and emotional abuse, and abusing children.
We recognise that the police can sometimes not deal with these issues as appropriately as they should which is why there are civil remedies available to victims.
These include the following types of court order:
- Non-Molestation Order (which prevents the perpetrator from harassing, threatening or using violence against or instructing others to do so), and/ or
- Occupation Order (which is an order removing and preventing the perpetrator from coming within a certain distance of your property).
The consequences of breaching these orders are serious and can result in a term of imprisonment. If you are the victim of domestic abuse, don’t put up with it any longer and call a member of our team for an urgent appointment or contact us. Please note that Legal Aid may be available for Domestic Abuse providing your capital and income are not too high.
