Dissolution of Civil Partnerships
Like Divorce, Dissolution of a Civil Partnership does not have to be an acrimonious and unpleasant process. Since the 5th December 2005, same sex couples have acquired the right to ‘marry’ by registering as civil partners of one another.
The process of ending the arrangement is very similar to the Divorce process. Like Divorce, there is only one ground for Dissolution being that the partnership has broken down irretrievably.
Unlike Divorce, you are unable to rely on ‘adultery’ as a fact to prove that it has broken down irretrievably but you can rely on the four other facts such as ‘Unreasonable Behaviour’ and being separated for 2 years.
Dissolution of a Civil Partnership does not have to be complex and can be dealt with by neither party having to attend court. Furthermore, there do not have to be contentions and it is possible for dissolutions to proceed on an amicable basis.
